KATHMANDU: Bhuvan BK of Phuldanda, Raghuganga Rural Municipality–6, who had been stranded abroad while attempting to travel for foreign employment, has been rescued after nearly three months.
However, the whereabouts of Bishne Sarki of Benighat–9, Kaulegaun, who went missing after a boat accident while traveling from Serbia to Italy along with BK, remain unknown.
BK was rescued through coordination among the Migrant Resource Center under the District Administration Office, the Foreign Employment Board, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Nepali Embassy in Germany. He had been injured and left stranded following a boat accident on November 11, 2025, while attempting to enter Italy illegally. BK returned to his hometown last week and said he felt as if he had been given a new life.
Sharing his experience, BK said that he and 13 other Nepalis had boarded a boat to travel to Italy after failing to receive work and wages in Serbia.
“The boat met with an accident, and I was rescued by local police in an injured condition. Although I received treatment, I was left stranded due to the absence of my passport and documents,” he said. BK added that the agents who took him abroad abandoned him, forcing his family to seek help through the Migrant Resource Center.
BK said his health has improved, but he is still suffering from intestinal problems after being submerged in cold water and swallowing large amounts of it. He and others had attempted to flee Serbia through illegal routes after not being paid by their employers.
According to Migrant Resource Center staff Pramila Poudel, the rescue was initiated based on an application submitted by BK’s wife, Meena, on January 7. The rescue was carried out with coordination among the Home Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Employment Board, and the Nepali Embassy in Germany.
BK was among four people from Myagdi district who had reached Serbia after paying Rs 1.1 million each to manpower agents. The other three have since returned home after failing to secure the promised jobs and salaries.
Meanwhile, Bishne Sarki, who went missing in the same boat accident, has remained out of contact since the incident. His family has submitted an application to the Migrant Resource Center seeking help in locating and rescuing him.
Bishne’s brother, Dilgopal Sarki, said the family has been left distressed due to the lack of information. “We suspect he may be under police custody in Serbia or receiving treatment in a hospital, but no confirmation has been received so far,” he said.
