Industrialists urge government to build exhibition centre in Biratnagar

KATHMANDU: Industrialists and business leaders from the Sunsari-Morang Industrial Corridor have urged the government to facilitate the construction of an industrial exhibition centre in Biratnagar Metropolitan City-3.

They said the lack of a dedicated exhibition venue in Biratnagar, one of Nepal’s major industrial hubs, has made it difficult to regularly organise programmes aimed at promoting industries and businesses. They proposed developing the facility under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

During a meeting with House of Representatives member Yagya Mani Neupane of Morang Constituency-1, the industrialists said the exhibition centre could be built on nearly two bighas of land leased to the Morang Trade Association for 99 years by the Satyanarayan Temple Management Committee.

Prakash Mundhada, senior vice-president of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) Koshi Province, said the lawmakers were requested to initiate discussions with the Prime Minister to move the project forward.

On Saturday, MP Neupane, CNI Koshi Province Senior Vice-President Mundhada, Morang Trade Association President Nanda Kishore Rathi and Morang Chamber of Industries and Commerce Senior Vice-President Anil Sah, among others, inspected the proposed site.

The industrialists also urged the government to support the establishment of an industrial village on around 600 bighas of land belonging to the Morang Sugar Mill in Amaduwa, Sunsari.
