PM Oli briefed on policies to promote local products



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was briefed by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies on several key issues, including the use of domestic products in public entities, the operation of struggling industries, and the enhancement of employment opportunities.

During a meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, the Ministry presented the Directives on the Use of Domestic Products in Public Entities, 2081, the Micro, Cottage, and Small Industries Promotion Policy, 2081, and the National Startup Entrepreneurship Policy, 2081, emphasizing the need for their effective implementation.

The meeting also addressed plans to revive several state-owned industries, including the Gorakhkali Rubber Industry, Udyapur Cement Factory, Biratnagar Jute Mills, Janakpur Cigarette Factory, Hetauda Cement and Textiles Industry, and Nepal Oriental Magnesite Industry.

Proposals for reviving these industries through government ownership, public-private partnerships, or other suitable models were discussed, with the aim of boosting production and job creation.

Additionally, the Prime Minister was updated on progress in the exploration of petroleum products and iron mining.

PM Oli encouraged the Ministry to develop concrete plans and programs that would contribute to achieving national prosperity, increasing exports, and creating jobs. Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, and Ministry Secretary, Govinda Bahadur Karki, were also present at the meeting.
