KANCHANPUR: Two local levels in Kanchanpur district have adjusted school operating hours due to rising temperatures, shifting classes to the morning session to protect students’ health.
Krishnapur Municipality and Shuklaphanta Municipality have decided to run both community and institutional schools in the morning, citing adverse health effects caused by extreme heat.
In Krishnapur, the Municipal Executive has decided to implement the new schedule while ensuring that teaching hours are not reduced and uniformity is maintained across schools.
Mayor Hemraj Ojha said the decision aligns with the National Curriculum Framework, 2076 BS, and the Letter Grading Guidelines, 2083 BS.
He added that schools will also operate on Sundays to compensate for time constraints in the revised schedule and to ensure completion of required “credit hours.” Regular classes will be conducted on Sundays as well, focusing on academic activities, projects and practical work.
Similarly, Shuklaphanta Municipality has decided to conduct classes in the morning session from Jestha 16 until the onset of the monsoon season. A meeting of the Municipal Education Committee took the decision following requests from parents, teachers and students.
Schools that previously operated from 10:00 am will now run from 7:00 am to 1:15 pm.
According to Education Branch Chief Raj Bhatta, the change was made after students began experiencing fatigue, headaches and difficulty concentrating due to the intense heat.
Education Officer Suresh Bhatta said that despite the revised schedule, teaching hours and academic activities will continue as per the national curriculum and grading guidelines.
