Market monitoring in Birgunj: action taken against three hotels



BIRGUNJ: Three hotel operators have been penalized during a joint market monitoring drive conducted in Birgunj Metropolitan City as part of Price Transparency Week.

A joint monitoring team under the District Monitoring Committee carried out surprise inspections of hotels and canteens in different areas of Birgunj and took action against three businesses for violating provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS, and the Consumer Protection Regulations, 2076 BS.

According to Asutosh Kushwaha, acting chief of the Commercial Supplies and Consumer Protection Office, Birgunj, Deepak Sah, operator of Terai Canteen in Birgunj Metropolitan City–11, was found guilty of violating Section 15 of the Act and fined Rs 50,000 under Section 39(1)(d).

Similarly, Shekhar Magar, operator of Jyoti Magar Hotel in Birgunj–13, was fined Rs 20,000 under Section 39(1)(a) for violating the same provision.

Urmila Mahato, operator of Chaudhary Hotel in the same ward, was also fined Rs 5,000 under Section 39(1)(a) for similar violations.

During the inspection, another business operated by Anu Devi in Birgunj–13 was found to require improvements, and the monitoring team issued general instructions for necessary corrections.

The District Monitoring Committee said market inspections will continue regularly to ensure consumer rights protection and maintain orderly market practices.
