CHITWAN: Traffic police have started taking action against drivers found speeding on highways.
With the aim of reducing road accidents, the Nepal Police Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office in Ramnagar, Chitwan, has begun using a LiDAR speed gun on the Narayangadh–Muglin road section.
Traffic police have intensified daily monitoring campaigns in the forested Ramnagar–Jugedi stretch, which is considered a high-risk area for accidents. Office chief Dillinarayan Pandey said the use of modern technology has been increased after studies showed that excessive speed is one of the main causes of road accidents.
Police believe the system will be particularly effective during the monsoon season, when the risk of accidents rises. Chief Pandey said action was taken against more than 60 drivers on the first day for driving above the permitted speed limit.
He added that similar monitoring and enforcement campaigns will be carried out regularly in high-risk road sections across all 10 districts under the office’s jurisdiction.
