Locals block road in Baitadi after infant’s death following vaccination

KATHMANDU: Locals in Dilasaini Rural Municipality have blocked the Gokuleshwar-Ganna-Latinath road section, demanding an investigation and compensation after the death of a two-month-old child, allegedly due to vaccination.

Adarsh Rana, the infant son of Mukesh Rana, passed away on Wednesday after receiving multiple vaccines at the Simar Birthing Center under the regular immunization program.

The administered vaccines included the second dose of DPT, the first dose of PCV, OPV, and Rota.

The child reportedly developed a fever and began drooling around 3 pm after the vaccination.

He was taken to Gokuleshwar for treatment but was referred to Dadeldhura Hospital when his condition worsened. He died on the way, according to Dhruva Rana, a relative of the deceased.

Angry locals have been blocking the road since midday, demanding an impartial investigation into the death and compensation for the grieving family.

Sanju Bohara, in charge of the Rudreswar Health Post, stated that the same vaccines were administered to other children the previous day without any adverse effects.

The Health Office in Baitadi said the cause of death would be determined after a postmortem examination.

A team of local representatives, including the vice-chairperson of the rural municipality, is engaging with the protesters to address their concerns and restore normalcy.
