Kathmandu traffic police collect over Rs 2 million in fines in a single day



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has collected more than Rs 2 million in revenue from traffic rule violations in a single day.

According to the office, 2,200 drivers were penalized for violating traffic regulations, generating Rs 2.039 million in fines.

Traffic police said 168 drivers were punished for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 155 were booked for operating ride-sharing services against regulations.

Similarly, 137 motorists were fined for violating traffic signals and 152 for overspeeding.

Police also took action against 102 drivers for failing to follow lane discipline, 178 for unnecessary honking in prohibited areas, 123 for parking vehicles on footpaths and 113 for driving on one-way roads.

In addition, 1,072 drivers faced action for various other traffic rule violations, the office said.
