SC orders to submit complete investigation file in Agni Sapkota case

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal has requested details of the progress made in the case filed against former Speaker and Vice Chair of CPN Maoist Center, Agni Prasad Sapkota. The Constitutional Bench ordered the release of all documents related to the investigation and actions taken so far in the long-pending case.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha and Justices Prakash Man Singh Raut, Sapna Pradhan Malla, Prakash Kumar Dhungana, and Kumar Regmi, issued the order on Wednesday. The case, one of the oldest before the Constitutional Bench, is expected to move toward a final verdict after concluding the debates.

Sapkota has been accused of involvement in the murder of Arjun Lama of Kavre during the Maoist conflict in Baisakh, 2062. Lama’s widow, Purnimaya Lama, filed a writ petition on Mangsir 7, 2069, seeking an investigation into the killing. Social activists Kanakmani Dixit and Sushil Pyakurel also filed separate writs demanding legal action against Sapkota.

The case was referred to the Constitutional Bench after a preliminary decision by the then Justices Sushila Karki and Om Prakash Mishra. The victim’s family alleges that Sapkota, who held a leadership role in the Maoist party in Kavre at the time, was involved in the murder of Lama, who was the chairperson of the Krishna Mavi Management Committee in Chhatrabanj.
