RSP’s presence in the parliament sans significance : RPP Chair Lingden

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden, stated that the presence of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in parliament has only altered the arithmetic without bringing significant changes.

Lingden remarked that RSP’s presence has not led to any substantial changes.

Speaking briefly to journalists at RSP’s anniversary event on Friday, Lingden noted that the overall dynamics of the parliament remain unchanged.

He criticized that top leaders of major political parties still dominate decisions and continue to hold the parliament hostage.

“There might be a numerical difference in parliament, but it remains the same as before. The rules might have minor modifications, but the overall nature is unchanged. Parliament still carries the burden of decisions made by a few key leaders of certain parties, with nothing new beyond that,” he said.

He further mentioned that although lawmakers are referred to as legislators, they still do not have the freedom to act independently. According to him, the parliament is still held captive by a few leaders.

Lingden also revealed that discussions are ongoing regarding collaboration between RSP and RPP.

He recalled that both parties had previously intended to cooperate and joined the government together.

He explained that the initial partnership did not last long due to various changes in government dynamics at the time.

However, he expressed confidence that collaboration between RSP and RPP could send a different message to the public.

“We are in discussions. After the parliamentary elections, we did try to collaborate but were unsuccessful. We will attempt such cooperation again in the future. If our two parties decide to work together, we can send a different message,” he said.
