PM Dahal seeking vote of confidence on May 20

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is set to secure a vote of confidence on May 20.

This marks the fourth instance in his current term.

The decision comes amidst a turbulent political landscape, notably when the Nepali Congress (NC) has been obstructing the House of Representatives meeting, prompting the ruling party to hastily call for a vote of confidence.

Prime Minister Dahal’s move follows the split within the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP), as Chairman Upendra Yadav withdrew his support from the government.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire’s press advisor, Shekhar Adhikari, disclosed that the Prime Minister’s Secretariat has already dispatched a letter to the Parliament Secretariat, signaling the impending vote of confidence.

Constitutionally, there’s a provision mandating a vote of confidence within 30 days of the withdrawal of support from a coalition partner.
