KATHMANDU: The ruling alliance has reached a consensus to allow the Nagarik Unmukti Party to take charge of the Sudurpaschim provincial government for a period of one year.

In a meeting convened earlier this morning among key leaders of the ruling coalition, it was decided that the provincial government would be led by different parties in rotation.

Present at the meeting were Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, KP Sharma Oli, Chairman of CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist), and Ranjita Shrestha, Chairperson of Nagarik Unmukti Party.

Following this decision, the Nagarik Unmukti Party is poised to assert its claim for the position of Chief Minister of the province today.

Sources indicate that Kailash Chaudhary, representing the Ranjita Shrestha faction of the party, is expected to assume the role of Chief Minister.

The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly consists of 53 members, with the current composition standing at 51 MPs. A majority of 26 votes is required to secure governance.

Presently, the coalition comprises 31 MPs, with 11 from the Maoist Center, 10 from CPN-UML, 6 from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, and 4 from the Unified Socialist Party.

Additionally, the assembly includes 18 members from the Nepali Congress, one member from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and an independent MP.
