KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the government’s decision to reconnect power lines disconnected by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in a tariff dispute with customers using dedicated feeders and trunk lines.

Advocate Khadananda Kandel filed the petition challenging the government’s decision. The initial hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

The Cabinet meeting on Sunday had directed the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation to reconnect power to the affected industries within 24 hours.

In line with the Cabinet’s directive, Energy Minister Deepak Khadka also released the report of an investigative commission led by former Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal, aimed at resolving the tariff dispute with customers using dedicated feeders and trunk lines.

On Tuesday, the NEA Board of Directors also decided to immediately restore electricity to the affected industries.
