KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the Home Minister and Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has staunchly defended himself against calls for a parliamentary committee to probe him in the cooperative fraud case.
Addressing a gathering of prominent political figures convened by the Speaker, Lamichhane asserted that the Office of the Attorney General has already absolved him of any wrongdoing, rendering the formation of such a committee unnecessary.
He also questioned the rationale behind demands for an investigation into his affairs, particularly when individuals convicted of corruption hold seats in parliament.
Further, Lamichhane clarified that mere association with an incident does not equate to guilt.
Additionally, he highlighted the government’s focus on addressing cooperative fraud issues through policy and institutional measures, emphasizing the priority of reimbursing depositors.
Moreover, Lamichhane disclosed his telephonic discussion with his Malaysian counterpart regarding the apprehension and repatriation of GB Rai to Nepal.
