NC-UML coalition govt expected today, leaders assert

KATHMANDU: Leaders of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have asserted that a coalition government involving the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML will be formalized by today.

Sources at the highest levels report ongoing discussions between the NC and UML regarding the distribution of power.

It is anticipated that a framework will be finalized by today, marking the commencement of the coalition government formation process.

To facilitate this, UML Chair KP Oli, Vice Chair Bishnu Paudel, and Deputy Prime Minister Raghubir Mahaseth convened for discussions in Balkot on Monday evening.

Simultaneously, senior NC figures are engaged in informal talks at various levels, as per NC sources.

UML leaders have indicated that while an initial framework for power-sharing has been established, final agreements are expected to be concluded today.

“Our Chairman is set to become Prime Minister, as agreed upon by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba. The conclusive agreement is slated for today, heralding a shift in the coalition,” disclosed a UML insider.

Currently, the drafting of the agreement involves NC representatives Ramesh Lekhak and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, alongside UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel and leaders like Ramesh Badal.
