Rastriya Janamorcha to initiate Kathmandu-centric movement against federalism

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Janamorcha, which has been opposing federalism, has announced a week-long Kathmandu-centric protest.

Party General Secretary Manoj Bhatt stated that this decision was made during the party’s National Council meeting held in Butwal.

The week-long movement, aimed at abolishing federalism, is set to begin on April 6 next year.

The Front has underscored the necessity of dismantling the federal structure, arguing that it has led to reduced development expenditure by provincial ministers and MPs, increased tax burdens on citizens, rising foreign debt, and threats to nationalism and unity.

The party has stated that the central government’s distorted politics have been decentralized across seven regions of the country.

It has also proposed a unitary state model with democratic decentralization, advocating for greater powers to be granted at the local level.
