Prachanda says he will not engage in pursuit of power

KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Chairman of the Maoist Centre, has announced that he will no longer seek political power.

Addressing the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Prachanda emphasized his commitment to advocating for the rights of the people rather than engaging in power struggles.

“I am addressing the members of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML from this rostrum to make it clear: Prachanda will no longer engage in power games. I will not approach you to request a share in power,” he stated during the meeting.

Prachanda described the Maoists as representing a movement for marginalized classes, castes, genders, and regions, rather than just a political party.

He acknowledged that there have been shortcomings within Parliament, noting, “Our communication with the people has been inadequate, and there have been issues of behavioral flaws and class favoritism.”

He warned that these weaknesses have led some to undermine the rights of the marginalized and reverse the progress of the political revolution achieved thus far.

Prachanda reiterated that the Maoists’ focus has now shifted away from power.
