KATHMANDU: The Ex-British Gorkha Satyagraha Joint Struggle Committee has urged the Nepal government to ensure that the seventh round of dialogue with Britain, addressing issues such as equal pensions for ex-Gorkha soldiers, is result-oriented.

At a press conference today, Coordinator of the Satyagraha Struggle Committee Bhim Bahadur Tawa Limbu warned of street protests and legal action if their demands are not met.

Chief Coordinator Krishna Bahadur Rai emphasized the need for the government to conduct the necessary groundwork and create an environment conducive to productive talks.

He also stressed the importance of reviewing the progress made during the previous six rounds of talks.

It is noteworthy that the parliamentary committee under the House of Representatives has issued two directives to the government, urging consultations with the UK government to address the demands of the British ex-Gorkha soldiers.

Rai attributed the delays in addressing their demands to the colonial mindset of the British government and the lack of adequate preparation by the Nepal government.

The struggle committee shared that 4,000 Nepali youths are currently serving in the British Army, with the number of retired Gorkhas exceeding 18,000.
