KATHMANDU: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against eight people, including Rajiv Rimal, former chief of the Water Supply, Irrigation and Energy Development Office in Mugu.
The anti-graft body filed a charge sheet at the Special Court, Kathmandu, on Wednesday, accusing them of misappropriating Rs 926,000 allocated for the construction of an electricity project from Kukur Phalna Chhaharekhhet in Adanchuli Rural Municipality to Bhai in Soru Rural Municipality-3, Mugu, without carrying out the work.
According to the CIAA, those facing charges include Rimal, former sub-engineer Bishwaraj Bhandari and former accountant Run Bahadur Sejuwal.
The case has also been filed against Lalu Dhami, former ward chairperson of Soru Rural Municipality-3, and Pradip Budha, chairperson of the Galphagadh Chhaharekhhet Hydropower Project Consumers’ Committee, along with vice-chairperson Bhimchandra Budha, secretary Dhanraj Bumi and treasurer Laxmi Dhami.
The accused have been charged with an offence under Section 8(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002.
CIAA spokesperson Suresh Neupane said the charge sheet seeks recovery of Rs 926,000 as the amount of loss.
