KATHMANDU: With the withdrawal of support from two major coalition partners of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal in Madhesh Province, Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav has lost his majority to remain in power.
CM Yadav, who had previously secured the support of 61 out of 107 lawmakers in the provincial assembly, lost this majority after the UML and Maoist Center withdrew their support on Sunday.
Currently, the CPN-UML, Maoist Center, Janamat Party, and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party are preparing to form a new government in the province.
CM Yadav now has 30 days to seek a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly.
The Madhesh Provincial Assembly comprises 107 members.
Among them, the parliamentary party leader of the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Abhiram Sharma, is currently under suspension.
Excluding Sharma, the party has eight members, while UML has 25, Maoist Center has nine, and Janamat Party has 13.
This coalition will altogether have 55 lawmakers, which is the required majority to form a new government in the province.
