TEL AVIV: Rescuers say they have recovered more than 250 bodies from the site of an Israeli music festival which came under attack from Hamas militants, BBC has reported.

According to Israel, more than 700 of its citizens have died in the attacks so far – while the Palestinians say at least 413 people have been killed in retaliatory Israeli strikes on Gaza, it said.

A wave of attacks launched by the Hamas militant group on Saturday morning was the biggest escalation between the two sides for decades, according to the report.

On Sunday night, rockets were still being fired from the Palestinian enclave of Gaza into southern Israel, BBC added.

The US says several of its citizens have died, without giving an exact number; it has also announced fresh support for Israel by sending munitions and boosting forces in the region.

Several other nations have said their own citizens have been killed or abducted by Hamas, and the UN Security Council held crisis talks on Sunday.
