KATHMANDU: The International Day of Peace is being observed around the world today.

The day is observed at the call of the United Nations. The United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate September 21 every year as the International Day of Peace in 1981.

Since then, every year, member states of the United Nations have been celebrating this day.

The theme of this year’s International Peace Day is ‘Action for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals’, calling for the fulfillment of individual and collective responsibility to achieve sustainable development goals through the promotion of peace.

September 21 is also observed in the world as Alzheimer’s Day with the objective of raising awareness and challenging the stigma around Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia.

The theme for Day this year is “Never too early, never too late”.
