KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Ekata Abhiyan (REA) staged a demonstration in front of the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, demanding the recall of the Chinese ambassador. The Abhiyan cited concerns about the ambassador’s interference in Nepal’s internal affairs as the reason for the protest.
During the protest, demonstrators chanted slogans such as “Return the Chinese ambassador,” “No to debt traps,” “Preserve our sovereignty,” “Stop meddling in our internal matters,” “Oppose Chinese expansionism,” and “Defend our nation.”
Vinay Yadav, Chairman of REA, criticized the Chinese embassy for making reckless statements that have strained Nepal-India relations. He called on the government to address these concerns through diplomatic channels.
Yadav stated, “China’s unilateral closure of the Khasa border has caused problems for Nepal, but due to our limited reliance on China, the impact has been minimal. India has been a dependable source of food and electricity when needed, and food and energy security are vital issues for our country.”
The protest also saw the participation of prominent figures, including Binod Singh, Coordinator of the Madhes Contact Committee; Dr. Prabhat Kushwaha, General Secretary of the campaign; Pappu Yadav from Vidyarthi Parishad; youth leader Dheeraj Giri; and campaigners Shiv Paswan and Ganesh Kumar Singh, among others.
