Foodstuffs to be brought to Humla via Kerung

HIMLA: The district headquarters of Humla is to receive foodstuffs via Kerung Point after supplying from Kathmandu.

As much as 4,000 quintals of foodstuffs will be brought to Simkot through roadways in Tibet, the autonomous region of China.

The Chief of Humla Station of Food Management and Trading Company Limited, Krishna Prasad Adhikari, said foodstuffs had been dispatched to Humla and would be supplied via Kerung point of the Nepal-China border.

Adhikari said that Humla had inadequate supplies of foodstuffs owing to limited flights to the district last month.

He shared that 40 vehicles left for Humla on Sunday ferrying 4,000 quintals of food and would reach the destination via Kerung to Hilsa.

The company which was awarded the contract to supply foods in Humla has made arrangements for the transportation of foods via Tibetan route.

It is said that 1,000 quintal of food grains would be kept for Namkha Rural Municipality and remaining others taken to the Simkot Branch.

Officials said that the food grains supplied to Humla through roadways via Tibet is low-priced compared to the food taken there by plane.

The transportation cost of each quintal of food from Kathmandu to Kerung to Tibet to Hilsa and then to Simkot is Rs 7,500 while the cost for same quantity is Rs 4,800 up to Yalwang of Namkha.

However, the transportation cost for per quintal is Rs 15,000 from Nepalgunj and Rs 15,500 from Surkhet if supply were done by plane.
