MAHENDRANAGAR: The Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal rescued 20 people who were stranded by floodwaters in the Doda and Bahun rivers in Kanchanpur district on Friday.
According to the Armed Police Force No. 7 Vaidyanath Battalion in Attariya, five local women who had taken shelter in a nearby forest after being cut off by rising water levels in the Doda River were safely rescued during the operation.
The rescue mission was led by Deputy Inspector Shanta Bahadur Sunar with the support of a disaster management-trained APF team under the coordination of Deputy Inspector General Digvijay Subedi.
In a separate operation, the APF rescued 15 women who had been collecting firewood and cattle fodder and became stranded due to flooding in the Bahun River area of Hariyalitol Municipality-9.
The rescue efforts were carried out in coordination with Nepal Police, local government representatives, and community members.
As the monsoon season continues, the APF’s Vaidyanath Bahini Headquarters has urged the public to remain alert, warning that heavy rainfall in the hilly regions could significantly increase river flows and raise the risk of flooding in the Tarai districts.
