KATHMANDU: Heavy rainfall has disrupted road transportation in several parts of the country, with landslides and debris blocking or restricting traffic on major highways and roads.
According to police, road disruptions have been reported in Kavrepalanchok, Ilam, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Rukum Paschim, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Mustang, Rolpa and Chitwan as of Sunday morning.
To minimise the risk of flooding, vehicular movement along the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebensi section of the BP Highway in Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli has been restricted from 6 pm to 4 am. Traffic is allowed to operate on the section only during the daytime.
Several major roads have also been affected by landslides and mud. The Mechi Highway has been completely blocked by mud in Ilam, while landslides have disrupted the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok and the Trishuli-Mailung-Safrubesi road section in Rasuwa.
Similarly, landslides have blocked the Jajarkot-Dolpa road in Rukum Paschim and the Besisahar-Manang road in Lamjung. The Beni-Jomsom road in Mustang and the Prithvi Highway at Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-5 in Chitwan have also been completely blocked by landslides.
Police have urged travellers to stay informed about road conditions and exercise caution, citing the continuing risk of landslides and flooding due to persistent rainfall.
