JAJARKOT: Two people have gone missing and seven others have been injured after a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall struck Risang in Bheri Municipality-2, Jajarkot.
According to Sudhir Kumar Khadka, information officer and Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Jajarkot, the missing persons have been identified as 54-year-old Uma Singh Khatri of Farula and 70-year-old Bhim Bahadur Karki of Chisapani, both in the same ward.
The seven injured are 60-year-old Ram Bahadur Shahi of Ward No. 2, 57-year-old Bhadrakali Karki, 45-year-old Siddhi Bahadur Kami of Ward No. 1, 52-year-old Kedar Karki of Ward No. 4, 47-year-old Manbir Chandra, and Motikala BK and 16-year-old Manisha BK.
Shahi, who sustained serious injuries, was initially treated at District Hospital Jajarkot and later referred to Nepalgunj for further treatment, Khadka said.
A five-member police team led by Assistant Inspector Dharmaraj Dhungana from the temporary police post in Rawatgaun has been deployed for rescue and relief efforts.
The landslide also completely destroyed the six-room, two-storey stone-clad house of Purna Bahadur BK in Syala, Bheri Municipality-3. Two temporary tin shelters belonging to Bhairabi KC of the same locality were also swept away by the landslide.
Following the incident, an 11-member team led by Police Inspector Rajesh Shahi from the District Police Office and a 10-member team led by Armed Police Inspector Kamal Karki from the Armed Police Force Nepal’s Dependent Gulma Headquarters were mobilised for rescue operations, according to the District Police Office.
