Court orders government to arrange treatment for former PM Oli

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the government to ensure proper medical treatment for former prime minister KP Sharma Oli, who was arrested on Saturday.

Oli was detained in connection with homicide charges linked to casualties during the Gen Z protests. He is currently facing multiple health complications and is undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

According to court information officer Dipak Kumar Shrestha, the court directed authorities to arrange effective and necessary medical treatment for the defendant after noting that Oli is unwell and currently hospitalized.

A bench of Judge Ananda Prasad Shrestha also granted permission to keep Oli and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak in custody for five days for investigation under Section 14(6) of the National Criminal Procedure Code 2017.

Lekhak was physically presented before the court, while Oli attended the hearing virtually from the hospital after being admitted due to health problems.
