KATHMANDU: The planned visit to China by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has been postponed for the time being.
Lamichhane was scheduled to visit China from August 23 to 30, but the trip has now been put on hold. Although a new date has not been fixed, sources said Lamichhane may visit China in mid-September.
He was scheduled to travel to Beijing with a five-member delegation before proceeding with his wife, Nekita Paudel, to Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet.
According to sources, the visit has been postponed partly because there was no confirmed meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and amid the changing political situation in Nepal.
Although his visit has been postponed, Lamichhane may still travel to China in September. However, no new date has been finalized. “The visit cannot exactly be called postponed,” said a leader close to Lamichhane. “But it is not certain when the he will visit China now.”
Meanwhile, a five-member delegation of lawmakers is scheduled to travel to China for seven days. The team is scheduled to leave for China tomorrow to participate in the eighth Seminar of Parliamentarians from Developing Countries in Beijing.
The delegation will be led by RSP House of Representatives lawmaker Kamal Subedi. It includes National Assembly members Jhakku Subedi and Kiran Babu Shrestha, House of Representatives lawmaker Yagya Bahadur Bogati, and Federal Parliament Deputy Secretary Sharada Bhandari.
