Oli’s wife Radhika files writ of habeas corpus in Supreme Court

KATHMANDU: A writ of habeas corpus has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the release of CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from custody.

Oli’s wife, Radhika Shakya, filed the writ on Sunday, and the Supreme Court has said it is currently in the process of registration.

The writ argues that the arrest and detention of Oli, based on the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry report, is illegal. It asserts that detaining an individual solely on the suggestion or report of any inquiry or investigation body is not lawful.

The government had arrested former Prime Minister Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Saturday, following the report submitted by the Commission of Inquiry into the Gen-Z Movement.

Oli is currently under medical observation at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital due to health concerns, while Lekhak has been placed in the custody of the Nepal Police’s No. 2 Battalion.
