Govt prosecutor seeks 10-day detention for Oli and Lekhak

KAHTMANDU: The government prosecutor has requested that CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, both arrested on Saturday, be detained for 10 days while the investigation progresses.

At the Kathmandu District Court, the prosecutor sought an extension, asking that the time limit for their detention be extended by at least 10 days to allow further investigation.

Meanwhile, the defense lawyers for Oli and Lekhak urged the court not to keep their clients in custody.

Lekhak, arrested from Katunje, Bhaktapur on Saturday, was produced in court through the government prosecutor’s office. Former Prime Minister Oli, arrested from his residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur, is currently at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital due to health issues and appeared in court virtually.

The district court is currently hearing arguments regarding the remand of both individuals.
