Hearing on writ against decision to withdraw charges against Rabi Lamichhane deferred to Tuesday

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal has scheduled further hearing for Tuesday on a writ petition filed against the decision of the Office of the Attorney General of Nepal to withdraw organized crime and money laundering charges against Rabi Lamichhane.

The hearing could not be concluded on Monday and has been kept for continued hearing. According to court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the case was heard by a joint bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Abdul Aziz Musalman.

Earlier, a joint bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel had ordered the Attorney General’s Office to submit the revised decision to withdraw the organized crime and money laundering cases filed against Lamichhane. The court had also scheduled the hearing for Monday.

Previously, a joint bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Shrikanta Paudel had directed that the petition be listed for regular hearing.

Attorney General Sabita Bhandari had decided to withdraw the money laundering and organized crime charges filed against Lamichhane during the previous government. Separate writ petitions challenging the decision were filed at the Supreme Court by Yubaraj Paudel, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and advocate Abhas Regmi.
