KATHMANDU: The faction led by former Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has said it cannot agree with the decision taken by the establishment side without postponing the party’s general convention schedule.
Nepali Congress leader NP Saud said the decision was discussed during a meeting of senior leaders from the Deuba faction held on Monday morning. He said the faction cannot agree with the decision taken by the establishment side.
The establishment faction had decided at a meeting of the Central Working Committee on Sunday to make necessary arrangements, in accordance with the party statute, to allow all members of the Central Working Committee elected by the 14th General Convention to participate in the upcoming general convention as members of the current Central Working Committee.
According to General Secretary Pradeep Paudel, the decision was aimed at ensuring that no one is excluded from the general convention and to continue efforts to address disagreements and concerns through dialogue and consensus.
Earlier, the Deuba faction had organised a three-day national convention beginning August 14. Following the convention, the opposition faction decided to hold a separate 15th General Convention in Kathmandu from December 7 to 9.
The establishment faction had already decided to hold the party’s 15th General Convention in Kathmandu from October 2 to 5.
Although both factions have announced separate schedules for the 15th General Convention, efforts toward consensus and party unity appear to be continuing from both sides.
