KATHMANDU: The faction led by former Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said it cannot accept the decision of the establishment faction without first postponing the party’s general convention schedule.
At a discussion among senior leaders of the Deuba faction this morning, the group’s leader, NP Saud, said they could not agree with the establishment faction’s decision.
The establishment faction had convened a meeting of the Central Working Committee on Sunday and decided to make necessary arrangements, in accordance with the party statute, to allow all members of the Central Working Committee elected at the 14th General Convention to participate in the upcoming general convention as members of the current Central Working Committee.
According to General Secretary Pradeep Poudel, the decision was part of continued efforts to resolve disagreements and concerns through dialogue and consensus and ensure that no one is excluded from the general convention.
Earlier, the Deuba faction had organized a three-day national gathering. Following the gathering, the non-establishment faction decided to hold a separate 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress from December 7-9 in Kathmandu.
The establishment faction, meanwhile, has decided to hold the party’s 15th General Convention from October 2 to 5 in Kathmandu.
Although the two factions have announced separate schedules for the 15th General Convention, both sides appear to be continuing efforts to reach consensus and maintain party unity.
