KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has taken seriously the statement by Nepal Student Union President Dujang Sherpa declaring the union as separate and autonomous from the party.
Speaking during the ongoing Central Working Committee meeting that began Friday, party spokesperson Dev Raj Chalise described the move as against party discipline.
“NSU, Tarun Dal, and Nepal Women’s Association are all sister organizations formed by the Nepali Congress,” Chalise said. “How political, legal, or meaningful is it for institutions created by the party to declare separation? Those making such statements should reflect on this.”
He added that the issue has formally entered party discussions. “This matter has been raised in the meeting. Leaders have spoken about it, and it may become a subject of disciplinary action within the party,” he said.
Chalise warned that no one should act against party norms and values. “This is clearly beyond the ‘Lakshman Rekha’ in every sense,” he stated.
He, however, noted that concerns and disagreements can be raised within the party. “In a democratic party, issues, reactions, and differences can be expressed—but they must be in line with the party’s statute,” Chalise said.
