KATHMANDU: The dissident faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) has established a liaison office in Kathmandu. The group aligned with outgoing party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has opened a liaison office in Anamnagar, Kathmandu.
The office was reportedly established with the participation of leaders Guru Baral, Jitjung Basnet, Jit Sherchan, Kundan Kafle, Kedar Karki, and others.
Baral, Basnet, and Kafle are outgoing central committee members. Similarly, Sherchan is the Baglung district president and finance minister of the Gandaki provincial government. Karki is a former chief minister of Koshi Province.
Group leader Manahari Shrestha said the liaison office was set up as part of preparations to make the party’s 15th general convention a unity convention.
“We have not opened a liaison office to form a new party. The 15th general convention should be a unity convention,” he said, adding that the office was established to support preparations for the general convention.
He also said the liaison office has been operating since April and its activities are ongoing. Leader Guru Baral said the office was established to build pressure for party unity and to prepare for the general convention.
“We have opened a liaison office to create pressure for party unity and to prepare for the 15th general convention,” he said.
