NC Bara recommends action against 16 leaders over ‘betrayal’ in election

KATHMANDU: Internal rifts have surfaced within the Nepali Congress in Bara District after the party’s defeat in the election held on March 5.

The regional committee of Bara Constituency-3 has recommended disciplinary action against 16 party leaders, including district president Rajesh Rai Yadav, accusing them of working against party candidate Farmullah Mansoor during the election.

According to regional secretary Rajesh Bhandari, the committee forwarded the recommendation to the party’s central working committee for further action.

The leaders are accused of failing to support Mansoor, who was the party’s candidate for the House of Representatives of Nepal from Bara-3, and of engaging in internal sabotage during the election.

The recommendation alleges that the accused leaders violated party discipline, carried out factional activities and worked against official party decisions during the poll.

The central committee of the Nepali Congress will take a decision on the matter after conducting further investigation.

Party insiders say the internal conflict intensified following the special general convention held in January, where the faction aligned with former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba lost influence. The factional rivalry within the party reportedly became more visible during the March 5 election.
