Foreign Minister Khanal to visit Serbia for NAM meeting

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal is scheduled to visit Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, on August 30 to attend a high-level commemorative meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khanal will lead a three-member Nepali delegation to the meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Belgrade on August 31 and September 1.

The first NAM summit was held in Belgrade in 1961. This year’s high-level commemorative meeting is being organised in Belgrade to mark the 65th anniversary of the movement.

Heads of state and government, delegations and representatives from NAM member countries are expected to participate in the event.

Nepal has adopted the principle of non-alignment as a cornerstone of its foreign policy. The country’s commitment to the Non-Aligned Movement is also recognised as an important principle in the Constitution.

Nepal has been participating at a high level in NAM summits, ministerial meetings and other related forums since the Bangkok Summit.

According to the ministry, Foreign Minister Khanal is scheduled to return to Nepal on September 2.
