BIRATNAGAR: Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has secured a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly. He received 57 votes in his favour during Monday’s voting.
Members of the provincial assemblies from the CPN-UML and the Nepali Communist Party voted in favour of Chief Minister Karki.
The Koshi Provincial Assembly has 40 UML members and 17 members from the Nepali Communist Party. All members of both parties voted in Karki’s favour, giving him a total of 57 votes.
Members of the Nepali Congress voted against the confidence motion. Although the Congress has 29 members in the Provincial Assembly, only 22 voted against Karki.
Five members of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), including the Speaker, did not participate in the voting.
Similarly, Janata Samajbadi Party’s sole provincial assembly member Nirmala Limbu was absent from the meeting.
The Koshi Provincial Assembly initially had 93 members. Following the resignation of one member, its strength currently stands at 92. A total of 83 members were present at Monday’s meeting.
Chief Minister Karki secured more votes than the majority required to pass the vote of confidence.
