T20 World Cup: Nepal faces crucial clash against West Indies

KAKTHMANDU: Nepal are set to take on West Indies today in their third group-stage match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The match will begin at 11:15 am at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Having lost their first two group matches, Nepal are under pressure to secure a win to keep their slim hopes alive. In contrast, West Indies are on the brink of qualifying for the Super 8 after registering two consecutive victories.

A win against Nepal would confirm West Indies’ place in the Super 8, while a defeat would eliminate Nepal from the tournament with one game remaining. Even if Nepal win both of their remaining matches, their qualification chances would still depend on other results.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Saturday, Nepal head coach Stuart Law acknowledged the strength of the opposition and stressed the need for a strong performance. “West Indies are a very good team, and we need to play exceptionally well. We must focus on winning the remaining two matches; otherwise, we will have to pack our bags and go home,” he said.

He noted that Nepal’s performances in the first two matches had been inconsistent and emphasized the need to bridge that gap. He also made pointed remarks regarding players’ use of social media, indicating the matter is being taken seriously within the team.
