KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to provide Rs 5 million in immediate assistance to the government for disaster response and relief efforts.
The decision was made at the RSP Secretariat meeting held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday. Party spokesperson Jagadish Kharel said the meeting appreciated the government’s prompt response and mobilization of state mechanisms since early morning.
The meeting also decided to suspend all formal and organizational party programmes for the time being in view of the emergency situation.
Kharel said party members have been instructed to participate in search, rescue and relief operations without using the party’s flag or logo, and instead work as responsible citizens in the spirit of the national flag.
The RSP’s Rapid Action Team has also been deployed to rescue operations in full coordination with government agencies, he said.
The party has pledged to remain alongside the government, local administration and affected citizens around the clock until search, rescue and relief operations are completed.
Kharel also urged authorities and party volunteers to give equal priority to locating and rescuing foreign nationals who may have been affected by the disaster.
