KATHMANDU: The government has extended the deadline of a taskforce formed to prepare a discussion paper on possible constitutional amendments, according to the Cabinet meeting held on Friday.
The Cabinet decided to extend the tenure of the “Constitutional Amendment Discussion Paper Preparation Taskforce, 2026” under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers until the end of July.
The taskforce has been assigned to prepare a structured discussion paper on potential areas of constitutional revision.
The Cabinet also decided to appoint Ramesh Kumar Dhital of Sindhupalchok as Chairperson of the Accounting Standards Board.
Officials say the decisions reflect the government’s focus on administrative reform, protection of public property and strengthening institutional leadership.
The move to revisit long-pending commission reports and simultaneously advance constitutional debate has been interpreted as part of a broader push toward governance reforms and policy restructuring.
