KATHMANDU: The National Vigilance Centre (NVC) has intensified its surprise inspections of government offices across the country, conducting checks at around 10 offices daily.
According to NVC Information Officer Sarita Khatiwada, the centre has formed five separate teams to monitor employee attendance during office hours, compliance with official dress codes, and file handling practices, among other administrative procedures.
Khatiwada said the centre has inspected 1,130 government offices since mid-July. During the inspections, 6,710 employees were found violating office hours, while 1,162 employees were not wearing the prescribed official attire.
She added that some offices have been inspected multiple times as part of the monitoring process. The centre has recommended disciplinary action against employees found violating regulations during the surprise inspections.
Under Section 55 of the Civil Service Act, 1993, the concerned office is required to issue a warning letter to employees who fail to comply with service rules, and a record of the warning must be maintained.
The Act also provides for departmental action against employees who receive warnings on two occasions.
The National Vigilance Centre has been carrying out inspections in one district of each of the country’s seven provinces, focusing particularly on offices that have frequent interactions with the public.
