Nepal face Canada in final warm-up match ahead of T20 World Cup

KATHMANDU: Nepal will play their final practice match ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup today against Canada. After opening their warm-up fixtures with a match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Nepal are set to conclude preparations against fellow associate side Canada.

The match between Nepal and Canada will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with the first ball scheduled for 1:15 pm. Nepal head into the game on a high after defeating the UAE by seven wickets in their first warm-up match on Tuesday.

Buoyed by that victory, the Nepali side will look to maintain momentum and gain additional confidence before the start of the World Cup. A win against Canada would further boost team morale ahead of the tournament.

As part of their World Cup preparations, Nepal earlier played two practice matches against the MCA President’s XI in Mumbai. Prior to that, the team had featured in warm-up games against Sri Lanka ‘A’ in Sri Lanka before arriving in India.

Nepal will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on February 8 against England. Placed in Group C, Nepal will also face two-time champions West Indies, former winners England, along with Scotland and Italy. The team is scheduled to play Italy on February 12, West Indies on February 15 and Scotland on February 17.

Nepal will be playing England and Italy for the first time in international cricket. All of Nepal’s group-stage matches will be held in Mumbai, with tickets for their games already sold out.

This marks Nepal’s third appearance at the T20 World Cup, following participations in 2014 and 2024.
