Supreme Court to remain open during election holiday, hear habeas corpus petitions

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal will remain open during the three-day election holidays announced by the government beginning March 4.

The apex court will also stay open on March 8, a public holiday observed on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

According to the Supreme Court administration, limited services will be provided during the public holidays to ensure continuity in hearings related to writs of habeas corpus.

Supreme Court Spokesperson Arjun Koirala said the court will operate from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on those days.

A writ of habeas corpus pertains to an individual’s personal liberty and fundamental rights. Such petitions are treated as urgent and are heard even during public holidays.

The Court has urged concerned individuals to seek the service within the designated hours during the election and other public holidays.
