NC Deuba-faction postpones meeting of district presidents

KATHMANDU: The parallel faction of the Nepali Congress has postponed the planned gathering of district presidents.

A meeting of leaders opposing the special general convention, held in Dhumbarahi, decided to defer the proposed gathering.

Former acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka had called a two-day meeting of office bearers and central committee members elected from the party’s 14th general convention.

Leaders said the meeting decided to postpone the district presidents’ gathering for the time being.

Earlier, the dissident faction had circulated information that the meeting of district presidents would be held on Thursday.

Leaders attending the Dhumbarahi meeting said the gathering was postponed as the faction plans to move forward with its activities in a different manner.

A senior leader said further internal discussions would be held before making a decision regarding the district presidents’ meeting.

A youth leader said the previously scheduled gathering was deferred as preparations are underway to hold discussions with district presidents according to provinces.

Another leader from the dissident faction said the meeting was also postponed considering the hearing scheduled on April 5 at the Supreme Court of Nepal regarding the party’s official status.
