Jhapat Rawal slams PM Shah’s remarks on border issue, demands apology in Parliament

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Central Committee member Jhapat Rawal has strongly objected to Prime Minister Balen Shah’s remarks made in Parliament on Sunday regarding Nepal’s border issue.

Rawal said the Prime Minister’s statement on a sensitive matter related to Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national pride was irresponsible, baseless, and unacceptable.

He argued that Nepal has consistently raised its border claims through diplomatic channels based on historical treaties, official maps, and documentary evidence. He said the Prime Minister’s alleged remark that “Nepal has also encroached on Indian territory” has weakened the country’s legal and diplomatic position on the international stage.

Rawal further said that making statements on such a sensitive issue without factual basis could seriously harm national interests. He stressed that border issues should not be interpreted through party politics or assumptions.

Condemning the remarks, Rawal demanded that the Prime Minister apologise to Parliament and the public, withdraw the controversial statement, and provide a formal clarification with self-criticism in the House.

He also called for unity among Parliament, political parties, and citizens to review and oppose such statements in order to safeguard national integrity.
