Four dead after shooting at child’s birthday celebration in California

CALIFORNIA: A mass shooting at a child’s birthday party in California has left at least four people dead. The incident occurred last evening at a restaurant in Stockton, a city in northern California, where 10 others were also injured, BBC reported.

According to local police, both adults and children are among the victims. Authorities have not yet released details on the conditions of those injured.

The suspect has not been apprehended, and investigators believe the attack may have been “targeted.”

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting took place just before 6:00 p.m. local time (02:00 GMT on Sunday). Officials are urging anyone with information, video recordings, or eyewitness accounts to contact them.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Heather Brent called the event “unfathomable,” noting that the investigation is still in its early stages and details remain limited. She added that preliminary evidence suggests the shooting may have been directed at specific individuals, though all possibilities are being examined.

Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi condemned the violence, saying the incident was “unacceptable.”

“Families should be spending time together, not standing in a hospital praying for the survival of their loved ones,” she said.
