KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Hong Kong on Friday.
The two ministers held discussions on bilateral relations while attending the signing ceremony for the Convention on the Establishment of an International Organization for Arbitration, where they participated as observers at the invitation of Minister Wang.
The meeting focused on a range of issues including Nepal-China relations, shared interests, and ongoing cooperation as the two nations mark the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties this year.
During the meeting, Minister Rana emphasized Nepal’s deep commitment to its relations with China, expressing gratitude for China’s long-standing support in Nepal’s economic and social development.
She conveyed appreciation for the Chinese government and people and expressed hope for continued cooperation in areas such as economic development, technical support, technology transfer, and foreign direct investment.
Minister Rana reaffirmed Nepal’s unwavering commitment to the One-China policy and assured that Nepali territory would never be allowed to be used against China.
She also thanked the Chinese government for its participation in the recently concluded Sagarmatha Dialogue, emphasizing its significance.
Both sides discussed the implementation of past agreements and understandings, including those made during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official visit to China in December.
Minister Rana extended a formal invitation to Foreign Minister Wang to visit Nepal as part of the 70th-anniversary celebrations.
She also expressed Nepal’s interest in welcoming more Chinese tourists during the Visit Nepal Year 2025, aligning with the diplomatic milestone.
Foreign Minister Wang congratulated Nepal on the successful hosting of the Sagarmatha Dialogue and expressed China’s readiness to support Nepal in climate change mitigation and environmental protection efforts.
He reaffirmed China’s continued assistance to Nepal and noted potential collaboration through the newly formed international mediation organization coordinated by China.
Wang emphasized the importance of implementing past bilateral agreements, particularly those reached during Prime Minister Oli’s visit. Accepting Minister Rana’s invitation to visit Nepal, he said he would make the visit at a suitable time.
He also commended Minister Rana’s leadership in Nepal’s foreign affairs and extended a special invitation for her to participate in the Global Women’s Leadership Forum on behalf of the Chinese government.
