Maoist Center calls Parliamentary Party meeting to decide on House obstruction strategy

KATHMANDU: Maoist Center, the main opposition party, has called a meeting of its Parliamentary Party to discuss its ongoing obstruction of the House of Representatives.

The decision was made during a meeting of party office bearers held on Friday at the residence of Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda in Khumaltar.

According to party Secretary Devendra Poudel, the meeting is scheduled for 12 noon on Monday (June 2).

The Maoist Center, in coordination with opposition parties, has been obstructing parliamentary proceedings since May 27, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. However, the parties allowed the government to present the annual budget on Thursday.

“A parliamentary party meeting with experts has been called to make the opposition’s role in the House more effective,” Poudel said. “We will seek expert opinions on whether to continue the obstruction or explore alternative strategies.”

The demand for Home Minister Lekhak’s resignation stems from allegations linking his name to the controversial visit visa case, with the opposition insisting he step down to ensure a fair investigation.
